Rhythm Composition coming home

Greetings!
This week you should see a rhythm composition come home with your child. The new learning for this assignment was Two quarter notes tied together and a half note. Both of which make a long sound for 2 beats. Students needed to use this information along with previously learned concepts to write a rhythm to play. We then took these rhythms and played them on other instruments.

Please do the following:
– have your child clap and say what they wrote
– Sign the paper
– return the paper to school for credit

THanks for helping give your child extra practice at home with these concepts. I appreciate all you do to make your child an amazing human. I am attaching a copy of the assignment in case you do not see one come home.

Music Homework – Doggie Doggie Song

Greetings
This week you should see a music assignment come home with your child. This was their opportunity to write down a song that they know well in solfege and then sing it for me. I am using this as a check in for their ability to match pitch singing with a song that they know really well. They also had to write the song on the staff and then figure out how to play it on the xylophones.

Please take a minute to have your child:
1. sing the song with english words
2. sing the song on solfege with handsigns
3. have them tell you about the work they did
4. sign the paper and return it

Thanks for your help giving your child extra music practice at home. It makes a big difference. I am also attaching a blank copy of the assignment in case you do not see it come home.

Melodic composition Sol-Mi coming home

Greetings!
Wanted to let you know that you should see an assignment come home from the music room today or next week. This assignment was a melodic composition using the pitches sol and mi. Students needed to use previously learned concepts to complete this task. They began with creating short 4 beat ideas, then we put them together to form a rough draft and then finally placed the song on the staff lines for performance. Students had an opportunity to share their work with others in the class as well.

Please…
– have your child sing what they wrote
– sign the paper
– have your child bring the paper back to the music room for credit.

Thanks for helping reinforce music learning at home!! I have also attached a blank copy of the assignment in case you do not see it come home.

Song Transcription Assignment Coming Home: Here we sit

Greetings
This week you should see an assignment come home from the music room. This was a diagnostic experience for your child where they had to write down the solfege from a known song, sing it, and then put it on the staff. They needed to use previously learned information for this task. All the work was done in class so there is nothing more they need to complete on it.

Please take a moment to hear your child sing the song and then sign it and have them bring it back to the music room for credit.

I am also including a copy of the assignment incase you do not see it come home.

Thanks for all you do to reinforce their learning at home. Please let me know if you have any questions.

A little bit about myself: I am from Grand Forks, ND, but I consider Minnesota my other home. I love to play my violin, sing, read, go for walks, and have long conversations with family and friends. Some of my greatest memories and friendships have been made through my musical experiences, and it all started from a young age when I learned all about what music what music has to offer in my life. I am excited to take part in helping your child grow as a musician!

I am looking forward to getting to know your child and sharing in the joy of music with them!

Sincerely,

Homework coming home

Greetings Parents,
Last week you should have seen an assignment come home with your student from the music room. This was a summative assessment and a chance for your child to show what they have learned this year in music. The pitches of Sol and Mi as well as the rhythms of quarter note, two-8th notes, and quarter rests were to be used and students needed to create a song that they could then sing for me in class. A second part of this assessment was putting the song onto the staff lines and then trading papers with another student to practice being a "real musician" and reading the notation.

Please Do the following:
1. read over the paper
2. have your child sing what they wrote
3. sign the paper
4. have your child bring the paper back to the music room for credit.

Thanks for your help at home to make your studnet more successful. I have included a copy of the assignment in this email. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks
